The best-known story of Medusa comes from the Roman poet Ovid. Medusa was seduced by Neptune (God of the Sea) in a temple to Minerva (Goddess of Wisdom, Medicine, Poetry, and War), and in revenge, Minerva turned Medusa’s beautiful head of hair into snakes. Any person that locked eyes with her from then on would be turned to stone.
